Programs and Advocacies

CLD uses several forms to pursue its objectives: training and education, research and information development, and advocacy in carrying out activities under three major programs: Legislative Capability Building, Strengthening Civil Society, and Gender and Governance.

LEGISLATIVE CAPABILITY-BUILDING
This program aims to upgrade and enhance the institutional efficiency and competence of local and foreign legislatures to produce quality and responsive legislation. It seeks to develop organizational, human and material resources of legislatures.

STRENGTHENING CIVIL SOCIETY
CLD seeks to empower people’s organizations, non-governmental organizations, sectoral and cause oriented groups to input meaningfully and substantively in the formulation of public policies through legislative advocacy seminars and information research and analysis. Through this program, CLD aims  to serve the advocacy training needs of NGOs and people’s organizations concerned with the issue of human rights and governance.

GENDER AND GOVERNANCE
This program facilitates women’s full and equal, informed and active participation in the decision-making process as advocates and/or holders of formal positions of political power and authority at all levels of government by providing research, training and information development services. Under this program, CLD initiates regional wide campaigns, serves as training provider for women’s organizations and networks, and releases several publications targeting a regional audience of women advocates and government decision-makers. As well, CLD continues to beef up its electronic database of gender and governance resources.
